How to get around Amsterdam

There are lots of ways to get around town to all our festival locations. Whether by tram, subway, bike or foot, we'll do our very best to help you find all the fun you can handle.

We're likely to add some more information to this section before the festival, so stay tuned and let us know if there are any queries or remarks.

By bike

Getting around by bike in Amsterdam is relatively easy, fast, healthy and safe (if you take care). Check out our map for the optimal routes. We have arranged twenty free bikes for our visitors, please check with our volunteers at the KLIK! desk for availability.

By boat

If you come from overseas, a boat may be the most comfortable choice of transportation. Our festival locations are located on the canals or nearby. Just watch out for the bridges with your steam liner or cruise ship.
During the festival special KLIK! boats will transport you through the Amsterdam canals from one location to the other. These boats are free of charge.

Public Transport

The cinema's De Balie and De Uitkijk are a hundred feet from each other, clustered around the Leidseplein area. Travelling to Filmtheater Kriterion from Leidseplein or back you can take tram 7 or 10. And you can watch our KLIK! Trailer made by the students of the Utrecht School of the Arts on the screens of the tram.

The Balie and Uitkijk can be reached from Central Station by tram lines 1, 2 or 5, exiting at the Leidseplein stop.

Kriterion can be reached from Central Station by subway lines 51, 53 and 54 from the fourth stop (Weesperplein).

The Chiellerie Gallery can be reached from Central Station by taking tram 4, 9, 14, 16, 24 or 25 to the Spui stop or by taking subway lines 51, 53 or 54 and getting out at the Waterloo Square stop. From both locations it will still be a five minute walk to the Chiellerie.

By Car

We advise you to leave your car at home. Amsterdam is very hard to navigate by car and it's even harder to find a place to park the damn thing. Public transport is excellent between all festival locations.
Here's a tip if you are coming from outside of the city: park your car outside of the ring at one of the Park&Ride locations for (relatively) cheap parking which includes a day pass for public transport.
Sunday the 20th is an official car-free day in Amsterdam, no cars will be allowed in the center.

On foot

Walking is good for you!

De Balie and De Uitkijk are at crawling distance from eachother, but Filmtheater Kriterion is a brisk 20 minute stroll. The Chiellerie is 20 minutes away from both the Uitkijk and Kriterion.
