Student Competition 1

Thirteen funny, freaky and furious films which include spacey simians in Space Monkeys, a papery love story in Hardcover and Paperback and a zombie apocalypse in Touchdawn of the Dead.

 
Student Competition 2

A kid is entranced by the flabby neighbour in Tussen de Plooien van Haar Vel, while a docile office worker befriends a sheep in the buff in Zachte Planten. In Never Drive A Car When You’re Dead, a bizarre procession crosses the town. There are nine more films to enjoy as well.

Thirteen films, which includes the trippy adventures of Chump and Clump, the misunderstood monstrosity in the Terrible Thing from Alpha 9 and a poetic wake-up call with haiku’s in Zondag Ochtend Vroeg.

Nick Cave stars as a purring voice in the Australian The Cat Piano while Monsieur Cok teaches us the value of pacifism. The German whimsical short Post will put a smile on your face, which will stay with you throughout the eleven films in this program.

Animatie is ook voor grote mensen! Maar kinderen vinden het natuurlijk ook heel erg leuk. We hebben dit jaar speciaal voor de KLIK!-kids een programma gemaakt met fijne, vrolijke en fantastische tekenfilms uit Nederland, Frankrijk, Slovenië en andere landen. Ook voor ouders geschikt!

We'll say it one more time: Animation is a mature art-form! And to make sure that this concept is drilled into impressionable minds at a tender age, we've compiled a program filled with the best child-friendly cartoons. Get them while they're young, right?

 
KLIK! Mopti

Friday 11 September, Mopti, Mali

The celebratory presentation of the KLIK! Mopti award is Thursday, which means that the Mopti screening is already a thing of the past. So unless you're a resident of Mopti, it's going to be pretty darn impossible to see this program. Don't cry though, the films shown in Mopti are also in other programs.

Dennis Nyback is an American film historian and independent exhibitor who has salvaged countless films from the jaws of obscurity in order to give them a new life on the silver screen. In this program he'll screen classic rarely seen titillating animated films from 1929 through to 1970, including two films by the legendary Tex Avery!

 
Phil Mulloy retrospective 1

The award-winning independent animator Phil Mulloy has been successfully subverting impressionable minds for almost twenty years, lampooning organized religion, racism and politics. He will be present at the screenings of his work and will hold a Q&A at one of this screening as well. His films hold up a fun house mirror to mankind's darkest desires, making the audience laugh as well as squirm in their seats.

Phil Mulloy retrospective: The Christies

This dark and twisted parody of a sitcom revolves around a disturbing English family, where sexual dysfunction, racism, substance abuse and aliens combine into a hallucinogenic cocktail. Harshly animated black profiles bark profanities with computer generated voices against cheerfully coloured wallpapers, while the traditional family unit slowly but surely goes nuclear.

 
Long Johns

Yes, we know we named this program after a type of underwear, but this triptych of films are so beautifully made, emotionally moving and at the same time so incredibly hilarious that you might soil yourself with laughter or sheer amazement. While we couldn’t include these films in our regular programs, we felt it would be criminal negligence to withhold these remarkable films from our audience. So we decided to compile them into one long, amazing program.

While we keep emphasizing that animation is a mature art form, we don't mean it can't be enjoyed by children. In cooperation with Nickelodeon we've compiled a special program filled with the best Nicktoons to be enjoyed by young and old alike. Including prèmieres of a new episode of the Fairly OddParents and Geronimo Stilton.

 
Brazil ASIFA

Brazil is our featured country this year. With the help of ASIFA Brazil we will screen a selection of the most interesting animated films to come out of the country. See a side of Brazilian life that's different to the stereotypical "favelas and carnival" image through the art of animation.

 
Spike 'n Mike's Sick 'n Twisted Animation

Spike & Mike's Sick & Twisted animation programme has been making people scream, writhe, puke and laugh their asses off for many years now. Some great animators made their first steps into the world of fame at Spike & Mike's touring festival, like the South Park boys Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Don Hertzfeldt and Beavis & Butthead's Mike Judge.
This legendary event will grace our beautiful city of Amsterdam for the very first time. Don't miss it!

 
Brendan and the Secret of Kells

Mediaeval Ireland is under attack by the ferocious Viking hordes. The only safe place left is the Abbey of Kells, where the monks hide behind towering walls. But in order to finish the legendary book of Kells, the young Brendan needs to venture outside of the walls and brave many dangers in this gorgeous film in an "illuminated" style.
