KLIK! serves a purpose
Animation is growing! New courses and schools pop up everywhere, and that in turn causes an almost exponential growth in animation films. A growing number of people start to take notice of animation as an adult, serious art form, instead of a cheap excuse for a babysitter. Even though Internet has made it easier to access and view animation from around the globe, not enough offbeat animated fare graces the big screens in our creative capital Amsterdam.
That all changed last year with the first edition of KLIK!
The history of KLIK!
KLIK! has its roots in our sister festival, the KLIT Multimedia Festival based in Gent, Belgium, which was first organized in 2004 by students of the animation course at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts. The return of one of the organizers to his Amsterdam Roots planted the seed for a successful new branch. Scores of animation lovers enjoyed animation, performances and a spectacular party at de Nieuwe Anita, Filmhuis Cavia and Ketelhuis on the first Dutch edition, september 15th, 2007.
KLIK! today
In 2008, KLIK! has grown to a festival with a pan-national reach, with satellite editions in Groningen and Zwolle and even the city of Mopti in Mali, with more than 230 entries from 25 different countries.
Our unbridled urge to animate is also expressed throughout the year in the for of our KLIK! Animation Film Night, Animanita screenings and KLIK! & Play, our customized playful combination of film, interactive media and a matching theme party.
Past successful KLIK! & Play events include the Big Lebowski Night and the Scarface Swear-A-Long.
KLIK!'s mission statement
KLIK! sets out to show that animation is the most vital and widespread cultural phenomenon known to man, and we’re more than happy to show you!
