In this psychedelic roller coaster ride we follow the misadventures of the struggling manga artist Nishi (closely based on the writer of the manga the film is based on) who suddenly bumps into his childhood sweetheart. Add hallucinogenic visuals that push the creative limits of the anime genre, a deep philosophical layer and a dizzying narrative structure and you've got a film that would baffle David Lynch.

This film has never been released in the Netherlands, so don't let this unique opportunity to see a modern masterpiece slip through your fingers.

On the 29th of May, we revisit our first original KLIK!&Play event. Yes, now it's time for the Big Lebowski Night to grace the hallowed halls and screens of Kriterion. Another chance to see the iconic movie that gets better everytime you see it and feel free to holler the lines at the screen if you know them.

Once again, there's a costume competition with a neat prize for the best dressed Achiever so make sure you dress up and there's virtual bowling aplenty, courtesy of the Nintendo Wii. The bar will be serving White Russians as well and we'll have Lebowski-esque visuals and tunes to make sure everyone is on his or her most Dudelike behaviour. Become part of the worldwide phenomenon on the 29th in Kriterion!

After the successes and positive feedback we got from the Scarface Swear-A-Long and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Scream-A-Long, we decided to push it to the limit and take a film with an even longer title.

On the 23rd of May, be prepared for the South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut Sing-And-Swear-A-Long in de Nieuwe Anita! Yes, on that night you can sing and swear along with Stan, Kyle, Kenny, Cartman, Terrence and Philip and all your other favorite South Park characters!

So study those lyrics and train that potty mouth of yours, you penguin shit-eating ass spelunkers! There's also a costume competition: the best dressed South Park character wins a couple of fabulous South Park items, we've got Mr. Hanky's Magical Chocolate Funland and there's going to be plenty of animated goodness to complement that.

So come on down to celebrate the show that has left us peeing ourselves with laughter for thirteen seasons! Let's hope they will keep it up for a long, long time!

The Midnight Movie Phenomenon Returns to Amsterdam with Nachtkino!

Let’s face it: movies and darkness are a natural fit. Just as the dusk ushers in the night, the dimming of the lights when you’re snugly seated in a cinema automatically puts you in the mood for movie enjoyment. In the late sixties and early seventies, a host of films were screened at midnight that truly became overnight cult-classics: titles like the existential western El Topo, the zombie classic Night of the Living Dead and David Lynch’s Eraserhead.

Three of the freshest, liveliest film festivals in Amsterdam have joined forces with their gracious host Kriterion and the Amsterdam Weekly to re-introduce the midnight movie to the big screen. On the 2nd of May, Kriterion will host the opening party of Nachtkino, the new midnight movie initiative courtesy of Rated X, Balkan Snapshots, KLIK! and the Amsterdam Weekly.

From now on, Saturday night will be synonymous with a fabulous film preceded by a short and/or introduction and always accompanied by an act or event that’ll make your viewing experience special: a DJ laying down tunes, a VJ presenting his visual acumen, a gaming contest or something else entirely!
So expect saucy cinema courtesy from Rated X, the best of Balkan films from Balkan Snapshots, astonishing animation brought to you by KLIK! and contemporary and classic cult films selected by the film reviewers of the award winning Amsterdam Weekly. All that, and more every Saturday at Nachtkino in Kriterion!

It's live, it's fast but best of all, it's fun! On the 2nd of April, the first Amsterdam edition of Cut&Paste will take place in Paradiso.
Cut&Paste is a global design competition that challenges designers from all backgrounds to design their way into the spotlights.
The event is a knockout competition - participants design according to themes and against the clock for a live audience. The creative process is projected live and the mood is festive.
The 2009 tournament features three onstage competitions in 2D, 3D, and motion design. Cut&Paste will bring the winners from all 16 cities to New York City for the big final of the Global Championship.
