Mopti is a city in the West-African country of Mali, near the border of the Sahara. The Dutchman Willem Snapper left for this wondrous region three years ago and started the Mopti Foundation, with the goal of bringing relief and aid to the local population. Willem does this by growing gardens and installing irrigation systems so fruits and vegetables can be grown for food and commercial purposes.

Willem also screens a film in his own back yard every week, attracting up to three hundred visitors at a time. As there is no cinema to be found for hundreds of kilometres around, that’s a unique event in its own right. That’s why KLIK! compiles a special program for the Mopti Foundation every year, to be judged by a jury of local dignitaries. The winner receives the KLIK! Mopti Award.

The jury of the KLIK! Mopti Award consists of (left to right) Baba Traoré: Social entrepreneur, Dibata Kodio, learning electrical mechanics, Christian Douyon: Health care professional in Sévaré and Coumba Ouologuem: nurse in training.

KLIK! will raise money for the Mopti Foundation during festival in a variety of unexpected and interactive ways. Do some good to get something good!

The jury in Mopti chose the following three films:

First Place: The Lady and the Reaper from Javier Recio Gracia, Spain.

Runner Up: Benigni from Elli Vuorinen and Jasmiini Ottelin, Finland.

Second Runner Up: Apollo from Felix Gönnert, Germany.
