World Domination Award 2013
This year marks the first time we get to present the KLIK! World Domination Award. This brand-new, though already highly coveted award will honor an organization, studio, or individual that helped Dutch animation take another crucial step towards world domination this year.
All throughout September we received nominees sent in by you, our beloved audience, and at the Opening Ceremony our esteemed jury will finally reveal just which of the ambitious nominees will take home this prestigious prize.
And the winner is Erik-Jan de Boer!
Erik-Jan de Boer worked as senior animation supervisor at Rhythm & Hues Studios in Los Angeles, enriching films such as The Chronicles of Narnia, The Golden Compass and of course Life of Pi by director Ang Lee. With this film he not only won this year’s prestigious BAFTA award (that is the award of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts) for best special effects, he won this year’s Oscar for best special effects as well. With more than 15 years of experience, he knows how to put his exceptional skills to work for projects such as Stuart Little and Babe, action movies like The A-Team and gripping epic dramas like The English Patient and the already mentioned Life of Pi. Erik-Jan de Boer is known as a down-to-earth Dutchman who is always ready to share his knowledge with others. And he never forgot his roots; after winning the Oscar he thanked, in front of the cameras, his tutor at the HKU, the Utrecht University of the Arts, from which he graduated in the 1980’s as one of the first students specialized in computer animation. Erik-Jan de Boer is a great inspiration for many Dutch students—turns out that even with a plain Dutch name like ‘de Boer’ you can dominate the world through animation.

A lovely tribute to the WDA by the Filmkrant
“Bij een buitenproportionele staat van dienst hoort een buitenproportioneel getitelde prijs, zeker als we het hebben over de wereld van de animatie. Dat de World Domination Award niet allang bestond mag dan ook een wonder heten. Hij werd dit jaar voor het eerst uitgereikt en wel aan Erik-Jan de Boer, de man die als senior animation supervisor meewerkte aan The Chronicles of Narnia, The Golden Compass en het voor de animatie met een Oscar onderscheiden Life of Pi.”
